Epidemiology and diagnostics
The working group Epidemiology and Diagnostics deals with the distribution and collection of data on the use and abuse of psychotropic substances. The central objects of the research area are the extent of the problem, developments over time, risk factors and diagnostics.
Aims of prevention research at IFT are (1) the development of effective and feasible prevention programs and (2) support of evidence-based prevention practice. We develop scientifically sound prevention measures, evaluate existing programs, and write reports on basis of international prevention research.
Therapy and healthcare research
The object of the working group is the evaluation of model programmes and conducting multi-centre therapy studies. Analysis of the quality of the addiction support system is undertaken on the basis of data from monitoring systems for the documentation of the care and treatment of clients in addiction support facilities.
German Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (DBDD)
Together with the German Federal Centre for Health Education (BZgA) and the German Centre for Addiction Issues (DHS), the IFT forms the German Reference Centre for the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (DBDD). As the national focal point, the DBDD collects and evaluates data on the drug situation in Germany.
Bavarian Coordination Centre for Gambling Issues
The Bavarian Coordination Centre for Gambling Issues (LSG) is the central interface of all organisations and stakeholders involved in the prevention, addiction support and addiction research in respect of gambling addiction. As a cooperation partner of the LSG, the IFT is responsible for the area of research, amongst other things, on the epidemiology of gambling behaviour and the negative consequences, on the treatment of pathological gambling and protection of gamblers.
